In getting a new puppy for your family you should consider getting your new dog from the city pound or dog shelter, so why not adopt one. There is an overflow of dogs that need a good home and some lovin. Some people think that dogs in the pound are troublesome but that is not always the case. Most are lovable and need a good home.

The older dogs between 9 and 12 months are taken to the shelters everyday. And most times they are unwanted litters or unexpected. You know even purebred dogs can be found in the pound. Estimates of purebreds range from 25 to 40% that can be found in the shelters.

When you look at the facts and figures of the homeless dogs in America it is amazing and heartbreaking. According to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, approximately 2 million dogs enter US shelters every year. And some say it’s even worse, stats gathered by some other groups are even higher, some figure that there are 8 million dogs taken to shelters every year. And the sad part is, that only 1 in 10 homeless dogs will be adopted, it’s a very sad story.

The poor doggies are homeless but its not there fault. Most of them make wonderful loving pets, just as good as a dog from a breeder. If there is a chance you could adopt a puppy or dog and give it a good life, then go to your local shelter or pound and rescue on. You can even talk to the staff for their input, they are knowledgeable about animals and could help you pick the right one.

Remember most new dogs or puppies need a little time to adjust to there new environment. Lots of love and attention with some patience will do the trick.

So, go on, give it some thought! Adopting a homeless pup may turn out to be one of the most rewarding things you ever do. The puppy or dog you take home will be one of the lucky ones, but you’ll be lucky too…lucky to have found a loving, faithful four-legged friend to share your life with.
