The Benefits of Dog Kennels

Dog kennels have a lot of benefits over simply tying your dog outside on a line. The first benefit is that of safety. While there are sturdy lines out there, some simply wear out and break, allowing your dog to run free. A dog can be attacked by other dogs, get hit by a moving vehicle or picked up by another person. If your dog is nervous and frightened, then they may attack another person, making the owner responsible for the injuries and damages incurred by the incident. A dog kennel provides more security for a dog. The owner can easily put a lock on the cage, keeping the dog in the kennel.

No one but the owner and anyone who has permission is able to remove a canine. The dog is able to stay in one area, away from traffic and other dangerous situations, giving the owner peace of mind. Plus, keeping a dog in a familiar enclosure will give him a sense of sanctuary. . In a kennel, the pet can also stay outside with family members without knocking down small children or other pets. Having a kennel will also allow you to cordon off a smaller area of lawn for the dog without having to spend money on fences and gates or electric fences.
Besides the safety of an animal, a kennel keeps an animal out of areas of your lawn that you do not want to re-sod or re-seed. A dog that is tethered to a line can get anywhere to eliminate waste, and animal waste can ruin lawns.

An animal who is free to roam may also decide he wants to dig up flowers and vegetable gardens. Keeping an animal out of those areas will save you money, since you will not have to patch large pieces of lawn or replace flowers, plants and vegetables. In addition, when a dog is tethered with a line, he can drag your shrubs, plants and lawn ornaments back with him, as I have experiences.

That simply cannot happen when a dog is in a kennel. Still another benefit of dog kennels is that the kennel can be placed either in a shaded area or a shelter can be placed over the top. This can keep a dog cooler when the weather gets hot and dryer when it is raining. This will allow the owner to stay indoors while the dog does his “business” instead of having to stand outside.

Besides a standard dog kennel that is placed in the yard, a travel kennel can also be a great investment. A kennel for your vehicle will keep a dog from jumping on the passengers in the car or truck, which could cause an accident. A travel kennel will also prevent the dog from chewing a scratching upholstery and electronics in the car.

A kennel is a good investment. It keeps animals, friends and family safe and secure. It also keeps you from having to spend extra time and money on repairs to lawns and autos.

Dogs More Than Just Pets

Dogs – More Than Just Pets
Dogs are generally very social creatures. They like to be around people or other animals, preferably other dogs. Being closely related to wolves, it is in a dog’s nature to want to be in a pack. Perhaps it is this trait within dogs that has naturally made them ‘man’s best friend’. Dogs look to their owners for affection and companionship. When a dog attaches itself to a human or a family of humans it is almost as if he leaves his instinctive pack behind and adjoins himself to a new one.

Most dogs that become pets become dependent on their owners. Where in the wild they would naturally have to find food for themselves and their offspring, in a pet-owner relationship, a domesticated dog now relies on his owner to feed him and provide him with relative protection and shelter. He becomes accustomed to feeding times and being rewarded for good behavior and disciplined for bad behavior.

For dogs to have the most successful relationship with their owners, they need to be trained. An untrained dog may react in unpredictable ways, making himself a danger to himself and to others. Many schools have been successful at teaching owners how to interact with their dogs properly without being abusive. The primary means for controlling a dog in a public setting is to make use of dog collar leashes. A leash is a rope-like material usually fixed around a dog’s neck which can be used as a restraint or a means to give a dog direction.

The purpose of a leash is to restrain a dog from attacking or biting someone. Depending on the size the dog, appropriate leash lengths can vary from 4 feet on the short end all the way up to 30 feet. Some nylon leashes are adjustable to fit the ever changing needs and circumstances of the dog in public places.

Some dog lovers are opposed to using dog collar leashes. Opponents feel that it is inhumane to tie a dog up and restrain him by using straps around the head and neck area. They feel that using a leash causes undue strain on the dog’s body and prolonged use of such leashes could cause long term damage.

Most people however understand that in public places at least such restraints are necessary to make other people feel comfortable around dogs they are not familiar with. And if a dog and his owner are well trained on the proper use of a dog collar leash the risk of injury is greatly minimized. To accommodate both lines of reasoning and at the same time provide adequate protection many leashes are designed with the dog’s comfort in mind.

Dogs offer their owners more than just protection. It is very easy to form a strong loving bond with any pet, but especially with dogs because they are so loyal and responsive to our care taking. So we should do all we can to make them feel comfortable and provide them with a home where they feel safe and wanted.
